EVERTON AMERICA WINTER FUTSAL 2019
Everton America will be delivering its annual Winter Futsal program again this year. This will be the 5th year we have been offering this program and we are excited to get going again.
What is it?
Futsal is an exciting, fast-paced small sided soccer game that is played across the world and is officially recognized by both FIFA and UEFA.
It is a 5v5 small-sided game played on a hard surfaced, basketball sized court with a smaller, low bounce ball. Futsal is played with touchline boundaries and without walls.
Futsal places a large emphasis on technical skill in high pressure situations which can be translated into the outdoor game. The sport is a great skill developer as it demands quick reflexes, fast thinking and pin-point passing.
Great soccer legends such as Pele, Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Kaka and Messi credit Futsal with developing their skills.
What we offer?
Each week our coaches will deliver a 30-minute coaching session based around the weekly topic. Players will then be placed into teams and the remainder of the session will be an opportunity for the players to play. Players should take what they have learned from the coaches and put it into the game.
The Futsal program will be comprised of 8 sessions. This will be 7 weekly coaching sessions and then a tournament. Tournament location will be confirmed at a later date.
The program is open to players born in 2010-2005. Depending on the numbers of players who sign up we may have two years playing together.
E.g. 05' and 06's mixed.
Why play Futsal?
1) Do you want to be a better player?
There is lots of anecdotal evidence about the role Futsal has played in the development of many of the world's current top players - Marcelo, De Bruyne, Neymar, Ronaldo, Messi are just a few.
Research tells us that the constraints Futsal puts on players is the reason why players get better. Futsal can hep players develop their ability to play in tight situations, pass more accurately, become better at quick decision-making and understand tactics.
Futsal requires a high rate of active participation and motor engagement on the part of the players. This makes it an excellent means of developing skills among youth players. Players are constantly involved- directly or indirectly- and build up the amount of time they spend engaged in useful practice, which is why it is an excellent training tool for soccer.
2) It's harder than just playing indoor soccer
If you strip Futsal back to its component parts, it's much harder than small-sided indoor soccer. In Futsal you can't just stand at the back, kick it away and not worry about anything else. Similarly, in Futsal you cannot bounce a pass off the wall and get it back. If you play by the constraints, Futsal is difficult to play. This makes it so beneficial in terms of developing better players and athletes.
3) Social benefits
Due to the quick nature and high intensity of the game the five players on the court regularly swap with those on the bench. Young players can be challenged to organize this process themselves which can have positive social outcomes.
Additionally, when they are on the side they're looking, learning, and developing their understanding of the game. Don't think that resting players aren't involved - if the intensity of the pratice/games is right then players will need rolling subs.
4) Physical rewards
In Futsal there are a lot of different types of physical work going on and as coaches we have the benefit of creating individual challenges by manipulating the environment. As well as the obvious fitness benefits, it is a great way for players to develop their skills of shielding and protecting the ball, making them stronger in these areas and improving them when they go back to regular soccer.
5) It's Fun!
Ask any soccer player and they will tell you what they most enjoy; 'just playing the game!' It's how most of us grew up and fell in love with soccer in the first place. The small-sided nature of Futsal, mixed with smaller court, and constant engagement means players always feel they are involved in the game. The constant engagement mixed with the social and physical benefits means Futsal is always an enjoyable experience for everyone involved.
Location, time and price?
The Futsal sessions will take place at All Saints Catholic School, in the sports hall. The exact times and dates will be decided once we have the sign ups but the sessions will take place on Saturday afternoons between 12-5pm, starting in January.
All Everton America staff are fully qualified in Futsal coaching by United Soccer Coaches.
